Movie night just got a little more interesting. This easy spirulina popcorn recipe transforms warm, crunchy popcorn with a savory, cheesy-tasting seasoning made with Niva Organic Spirulina Powder. The result is a fun, flavorful snack with a naturally vibrant green colour and a boost of plant-based protein. Ready in about 10 minutes, it’s an easy way to bring spirulina into your everyday snacking.

This recipe makes about 8 cups and takes about 10 minutes start to finish.

Ingredients
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels (about 8 cups popped)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Niva Organic Spirulina Powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
  1. Pop the corn. Pop the popcorn kernels using an air popper, stovetop, or microwave method until you have about 8 cups popped.
  2. Mix the seasoning. In a small bowl, whisk together the nutritional yeast, spirulina powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne, if using.
  3. Coat with fat. Drizzle the warm popcorn with melted butter or olive oil and toss well to coat every piece.
  4. Season. Sprinkle the spirulina seasoning blend evenly over the popcorn, tossing continuously so it clings to the warm, oiled kernels.
  5. Taste and serve. Taste and add more salt or seasoning blend as needed, then serve immediately while warm.

Tip: Sprinkle the spirulina seasoning in two or three light passes rather than all at once — this helps the vivid green color coat evenly without clumping.
