Spirulina for breakfast? Hear us out. 🍫
This chocolate spirulina smoothie is creamy, chocolatey and just sweet enough to feel like a treat — while sneaking in a little green goodness.
The secret? Cacao. Its rich chocolate flavour pairs surprisingly well with organic spirulina powder, helping balance spirulina’s naturally earthy taste. Blend it all together and you get a smooth, satisfying spirulina smoothie that tastes much more like dessert than a health-food experiment. And yes, the kids might actually ask for another one. 👀
This recipe makes 1 large or 2 small servings and takes about 5 minutes start to finish.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon Niva Organic Spirulina powder
- 1 tablespoon almond or peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or 2 pitted dates
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- Cacao nibs, for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the base. Add the frozen banana, almond milk, cacao powder, spirulina powder, nut butter, and maple syrup to a blender.
- Blend. Blend on high until completely smooth, about 30-45 seconds.
- Add ice. Add the ice cubes and blend again until thick and creamy.
- Taste and adjust. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed, then pour into a glass.
- Top and serve. Top with a sprinkle of cacao nibs and serve immediately.
Tip: Swap the banana for frozen cauliflower florets for a lower-sugar version with the same creamy texture.
